According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, BMW is recalling 32,000 vehicles due to fire hazard. The affected models, are considered BMW`s most powerful vehicles; the 2008-2011 5 series, 5 series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X5, and X6 that are equipped with turbocharge 8, or the 12-cylinder engines. “The circuit board for the electric auxiliary water pump can overheat,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “This could lead to a smoldering of the pump or an engine compartment or vehicle fire.”
BMW has reported two cases of engine fires to the federal safety agency, though no accident or injuries have been linked to the recent recall. Owners of these affected vehicles may take their vehicles to BMW dealerships and will replace the electric auxiliary water pump in vehicles at no charge.
