Alec Conner began his career in 1982 as a Patrol Officer with the Chattanooga Police Department located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. During his 27 years of service, he earned his certification as a Fire and Explosion Investigator, assigned to the Chattanooga Fire Department Arson Unit. During this time period, Alec examined over 750 fire scenes and over 56 fire related deaths while having the opportunity to teach basic fire and arson investigation techniques classes. In 1999, Alec was assigned as a liaison officer for the Chattanooga Police department to the U.S Department of Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF). There he gave in-service training classes to the police department and conducted firearms investigations. In 2009, Alec retired from the Chattanooga Police department and became one of the first Senior Fire Investigators with Liberty Mutual Insurance Group’s newly formed Fire Investigation Unit. Alec conducted origin and cause examinations, conducted joint scene examinations, and was personally responsible for preserving and collecting evidence. In addition to examining the fire scene, Alec was responsible for conducting interviews with homeowners and witnesses, reporting his findings to both claim agents and SIU investigators. In 2019, Alec was promoted to Fire Investigation Unit Team Manager. His responsibilities were to supervise the activity of several fire investigators, conduct peer review of reports while offering feedback, ensure training compliance was met, participated in developing protocols and educated adjusters on fire origin and cause techniques. Alec joined the team at Jack Ward Fire Consultants in 2022 where he works as a fire consultant conducting fire and explosion investigations across the Southeast. Alec is a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) through the International Association of Arson Investigators, a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators, and is court qualified as an expert in the field of fire origin and cause investigation.
