roger williamsJoe Toscano and David Cheers are honored to facilitate the Arson Investigations Seminar on April 28th and 29th, 2014 at Roger Williams University School of Justice.

The Arson Investigations Seminar will address the role of a fire investigation professional from the fire scene to the courtroom including the six simple questions a fire investigator should be able to answer about their investigative effort and the associated origin and cause determination. Joe and David will highlight the importance of understanding and conducting an investigation utilizing the proper methodology, validating information and opinions, and why investigators need to constantly evaluate the reliability of their opinions in the context of offering expert testimony in court. There will be an emphasis on the importance of a thorough understanding of NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921, discussed in the context of professional development, conducting a competent and proper investigation, and offering an expert origin and cause opinion in the courtroom. Case studies will be utilized to illustrate the differences between fire scenes processed correctly so that the proper conclusion was reached and those that were not processed in accordance with NFPA 921 leading to incorrect hypothesis and conclusions.
